SUNSHINE
SUNSHINE is about eight astronauts on their quest to save mankind by preventing the death of a star, our sun. Their mission as they say is to create a star within a star. And on their way to reach the dimming sun, they experienced a lot of drawbacks and predicaments that are preventing them to finish what they came for.The movie was quite unique. It is not the usual save-the-world type of film wherein you have to see the suffering people on earth and see some NASA crew trying to make things happen for those on the fleet to save humanity. All you see are those 8 astronauts trying to find their way into deep shit. ;p
I like the movie in the sense that it was unpredictable, that it turned out not having the usual engine trouble dilemma nor alien encounters. Plus they really had cool gears and paraphernalia. But I should say it ended with me feeling there was something amiss. Then I realized it may be the fact that I was not moved by the story. Perhaps I was trying to find that humane side, where I can totally feel for the characters. I had a couple of shouts here and there, but no intense feelings as to what I had with DEEP IMPACT or even ARMAGEDDON (which I don't even like that much). And yet, the truth is that is what actually made this movie apart from the rest.
I know it was a sci-fi flick, but such story lines as this would better have a lot of drama to have impact. Funny how it even attempted to make you feel in the end, finally providing a scene from earth. It was supposed to be touching, yet it seemed it was all too late.
Despite of what I think may have been a better plot, there were a lot of parts in the story of what may be a true sci-fi picture should be. My hubby loved the movie and he can't even really understand why I can't say I like it that much. I guess the plot works better for guys. Or I could be the only one in the entire world feeling what's missing. ;)
